Follicular Study

What is a follicular study?

Millions of immature eggs await ovarian release. During ovulation, a mature egg exits the fallopian tube. The uterine walls thicken as the egg and sperm fuse. A woman’s body will shed the uterine lining and blood if she does not conceive.

Incubation time for sperm is 12-24 hours, and one mature egg is released per cycle. Intercourse is advised if the patient is trying to conceive. Women will usually ovulate between 11 and 21 days after the first day of their menstrual cycle. Many women ovulate on different days or at different times of the month. Determining menstrual cycles and ovulation is crucial.

During ovulation, ovarian follicles contain and release eggs for fertilization. The eggs grow in a follicle. So does the follicle. Follicular tracking involves scanning the ovaries to monitor follicle growth. Vaginal scans are used to predict when, how many, and how safely the patient will ovulate. Timed intercourse (IUI) or egg collection for IVF is advised when eggs are mature.

In most cases, they last from day 9 to day 20. It is required for pregnancy, including IVF.

What is the use of a follicular study?

To predict ovulation, an ovarian follicular study takes the size of active follicles in the ovaries into account. They can try for a baby after the scan. The scan determines follicle presence and the best time to harvest an egg for fertilization.

How is a follicular study done?

Transvaginal ultrasound is used to examine ovarian follicles and internal organs. The vagina is scanned with a small plastic probe. So a couple can plan intercourse to maximize their chances of conception. The ovulation period is determined by egg-bearing tissues and endometrial lining thickness.

Who should get a follicular barbara study done?

If you’ve been trying for a year without success, you may want to consider a follicle scan. Good eggs may stop in the late 30s or early 40s. After 35, pregnancy rates can drop dramatically. May additionally benefit from foetal monitoring, such as:

  • Unknown ovulation date
  • If a woman is unsure if she is ovulating, or if she feels no symptoms such as a slight ache or pain near the ovaries,
  • If a woman is taking ovulation-inducing drugs

How Long Does A Follicle Scan Take?

The follicular tracking scan will generally take about 5 minutes.

How Many Scans Per Cycle Are Carried Out?

Because the ovulation window is wide, 8-10 scans per cycle are required. The baseline scan will allow the doctor to track the follicle’s development. So will the next scan. During the cycle, follicle growth and womb lining will be assessed. The scan will reveal the exact timing of ovulation.

Is follicular scan capable of helping with anything else?

Yes, a follicular study can detect other issues that may prevent pregnancy. Some are:

  • To identify follicles that do not grow properly before bursting
  • Womb lining thickening and follicular release
  • Irregular or non-rupturing follicles

So the doctor knows what is going on and when. It is easier to diagnose and treat problems.
